Description: | Volbeat Volbeat was formed in October 2001 by Michael Poulsen, who had previously split up the Danish metal band Dominus. Dominus was said to be Denmark's pride of metal. During their 10 years of existence Michael Poulsen and Dominus released 4 albums and had their videos shown on both MTV, VIVA. (for further information: www.diehardmusic.com). Volbeat's musical style is said to be a combination of Metallic Rock'n'roll with a touch of the sixties melodic tunes. As a Swedish Reporter from Slavestate Magazine wrote: Metallica should have hired Volbeat as songwriters for their 'Load' and 'Re-Load' albums. Others have said: This is Elvis-metal. In 2002 Volbeat release their self-titled debut demo. The response was moderate, and it wasn't until the release of their 'Beat the meat' demo from 2003 that things really started happening. Songs from the 'Beat the meat' demo has been aired on Swedish Radio top 30, and has been one of the ten most played songs with the track 'Soulweeper' , and also the French Radio have had the track 'Danny & Lucy' on their top 30. Both songs are featured on the debut album 'The Strength/The Sound/The Songs.' In 2004 Volbeat reaches the semifinals in Denmark's biggest music talent competition Live Contest. On the 16th of December 2004 Volbeat went to Holland to support New Yorkers Helmet at the Melkweg in Amsterdam (www.melkweg.nl). 2 days later on the 18th of December Volbeat played the big Jingle Bell Rock Show in Copenhagen, Denmark. Later that evening the band was approached by the Danish national TV-station TV2, requesting to use their music during their coverage of the World Championships in handball in Tunisia. Unfortunately the station later ran from their promises. Volbeat were a nominee for the best live act in 2004 at www.danishmetal.dk Volbeat are featured on the soundtrack to Denmark's first ever snowboard movie 'Frost' with the track 'Pool of booze'. Volbeat appeared in the legendary German heavy metal magazine Metal Hammer as the best band/ best promo CD: 'Beat the meat' (2003), produced by Jacob Hansen, and later in German magazine Heavy Oder Was as 'Best upcoming band'. 1000 copies of the 'Beat the meat' demo CD has been sold until summer 2005. After many months of negotiations between the band and many large record companies Volbeat secured a deal on the newly formed label Rebel Monster Records. A sub-label to Mascot Records. Now their debut release 'The strength the sound the songs' is out and the response all over the world is nothing short of amazing. Volbeat's CD sale has set some kind of Danish record, since no other Danish Heavy Rock band than Volbeat has been able to get that high position at the Danish TOP 100 (position no. 18) for CD sales in over 10 years, and they are leaving bands behind like Madonna, Pink Floyd, Eminem, Guns 'n' Roses and Coldplay, just to name a few. Volbeat were honoured with a 10/10 review by the legendary German metal magazine Rock Hard, and also made it to no. 6 on their soundcheck list. It's the first time ever any Danish band is given a 10/10 review in Rock Hard, and we are of course very proud of this to say the least. Volbeat won the award for the best debut album on Danish Metal Music Award 2005 held in Copenhagen Denmark the 26th of November. The Band was not there in person to receive the award, since they were in The Netherlands to support such bands as Candlemass and Destruction on the Arnhem Metal Meeting Festival, and the day after they played in the legendary Dynamo Club. After leaving the Dynamo Club in Eindhoven, Volbeat went home to Copenhagen Denmark to support Life Of Agony from U.S.A. Volbeat was among the 10 best releases in the year 2005 in Denmark's 3 biggest newspapers B.T and Politiken and Jyllands Posten . The band appears on the list together with such bands as Rolling Stones, Rammstein and Motörhead. Volbeat was nominated in 3 category's in Denmark's most acknowledged and respected Music Award show called Steppeulven, which took place in Vega, the 28th of January 2006 in Copenhagen Denmark. Volbeat won the price for the most promising band of the year. In April 2006 Volbeat was playing to the Anthrax after show in the Netherlands. A big moment since Anthrax has been an influence from day one. The 22th of April 2006. Frontman Michael Poulsen had the honour to perform with some of Elvis Presley's old studio musicians in Amager Bio, Copenhagen Denmark. Michael Poulsen: This was the greatest moment in my life, I still can't beleive it. 2006 is also the year where Volbeat is playing over 12 Festivals jobs including: Roskilde Festival, Rock Hard Festival, Full Force Festival, Summer Breeze Festival. And after that Volbeat were heading for a 2 month Danish tour. And after that a one month European Tour with Hatesphere and Raunchy, followed by different gigs around the world. Artist Biography by Chris True
Volbeat is a multi-platinum Danish rock band whose sound weds hard rock, classic metal, glam, punk, and rockabilly. Inspired by legendary performing and recording artists including Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash, they also freely admit to the admiration of bands such as AC/DC, Social Distortion, and Metallica. They put it all together in an incessantly entertaining loud-and-proud mix of great songwriting, incendiary performances, and accomplished musicianship. All of their studio albums have been certified gold in Denmark, with their second full-length outing, Rock the Rebel/Metal the Devil (2007) attaining platinum certification. Their debut for Universal's Vertigo imprint, Beyond Hell/Above Heaven (2013), landed in the bottom half of the Top 200 with widespread popular and critical acclaim, while their second offering that year, Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies, peaked at nine; 2016's Seal the Deal & Let's Boogie went all the way to number four.Volbeat was founded by former Dominus leader Michael Poulsen in October of 2001, who became a dominant force not only in Danish metal but in Danish rock as a whole, charting albums and singles on a regular basis. Poulsen's earlier group, Dominus, was a giant in Danish metal, releasing four albums in ten years, and making a lasting impression on the scene. Poulsen felt it was time to start over, and his concept of giving straight-up heavy metal a more trad rock flourish (Poulsen was a big Elvis fan, if that is any indication) was at the heart of Volbeat.
Evermotion vol 192. Bringing together members Franz Gottschalk on guitar (he would be replaced by Thomas Bredahl in 2006), Jon Larsen on drums, and Anders Kjølholm on bass, vocalist and guitarist Poulsen was able to release the band's first demo, Volbeat, in 2002. Reception was lukewarm to the initial release, but the group's second demo, Beat the Meat, was an instant success, getting airplay on European radio. Volbeat consolidated this early win with a semifinal appearance on the Danish talent show competition Live Contest. From then on, Volbeat began an almost constant work schedule, including performances with Europe's and America's biggest metal acts, as well as winning a number of genre and industry awards for their music.

The band soon landed a record deal with Rebel Monster and released The Strength/The Sound/The Songs. That first 'official' release was a relative monster in the band's home country, and beyond brisk sales, the album won a handful of awards, including Best Album at the Danish Metal Musik Awards in 2005. Volbeat had further reason to celebrate, as 2006 saw the group playing most of Europe's best-known rock festivals, including Roskilde and Summer Breeze. They followed these appearances with a Danish tour. The follow-up to their best-selling debut finally appeared in shops in 2007. Titled Rock the Rebel/Metal the Devil, it debuted at number one in Denmark, and later that year Volbeat made a repeat appearance at Roskilde, opened for Metallica and Megadeth, and once again toured Europe. They followed that chart-topper with Guitar Gangsters and Cadillac Blood in 2008, which also hit the top spot in Denmark, and once more toured festivals worldwide, seeing their brand of metal, hard rock, and punk cross over into the pop market without a concession in their sound. In 2010, Volbeat released Above Heaven/Beyond Hell with guest appearances from Mercyful Fate/King Diamond guitarist Michael Denner, Napalm Death's Mark 'Barney' Greenway, Kreator's Mille Petrozza, and Jacob Øelund of rockabilly crew Taggy Tones. They toured relentlessly for the next year and a half on their own and played many festivals.Michael Poulsen
In 2012, Volbeat reentered the studio and emerged in April 2013 with their fifth album, Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies, which introduced a new member of the group, former Anthrax guitarist Robert Caggiano. (He had been brought in to co-produce and add guitar solos for the project and ended up joining the band.) One of Volbeat's most stylistically diverse offerings to date, Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies also became a major international success; it went to number one in Austria, Canada, Denmark, Holland, Germany, Norway, and Switzerland, while making the Top Ten in the United States, Sweden, Holland, and Belgium.
